Salted Caramel Brownies

  • Brownie Batter:
    • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter
    • 2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
    • 1 cup (90g) unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
    • 4 large eggs
    • 1 and 1/2 cups (180g) all-purpose flour
    • 1 cup (175g) chocolate chips
  • Salted Caramel:
    • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
    • 6 tablespoons (90ml) water
    • 4 tablespoons (60g) unsalted butter
    • 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream
    • 1 teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in sugar, cocoa, and salt. Remove from heat; cool slightly.
  3. Stir in vanilla. Add eggs one at a time, beating well. Mix in flour until combined. Fold in chocolate chips. Spread batter in pan.
  4. For caramel, combine sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Cook without stirring until amber. Add butter and cream; stir until smooth. Mix in sea salt.
  5. Pour half the caramel over batter, swirl. Bake 25-30 minutes. Top with remaining caramel and extra salt. Cool before slicing.

Notes:

  • For a deeper flavor, brown the butter before adding the sugar and cocoa.
  • Store brownies in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
  • If desired, sprinkle with flaky sea salt before serving for an extra burst of flavor.
